Sarah welcomed everyone and shared the club calendar: 9 events remaining until the end of June, when a new officer team will be elected. Upcoming highlights include an Open House next week, a carefully designed Chinese meeting, and finishing the third book club book (他人的力量, recommended by Yunduan).

She reminded everyone of the four taboos — politics, religion, sex, and race — and the tradition of shaking hands with the host. "If anyone has the desire to do more, to exercise more in this club — welcome to consider joining the officer team!"

🎯 Opening Story: Jianghua opened with A Dream of Red Mansions (红楼梦) — Cao Xueqin's masterpiece that was never finished. Only 80 chapters are believed to be his original work; the rest was completed by editors after his death. Yet this "imperfection" is precisely what makes it one of China's greatest classics.

💡 Question to the Audience: "What is something in your life that is not perfect, but still meaningful?"

Jianghua also sent a pre-meeting survey to members, collecting answers about their own "beautiful imperfections" — from failed exams to unexpected career paths.

Though Bella couldn't attend in person, her beautifully crafted video poetry reading moved everyone in the room. The performance wove together iconic lines from the novel — "假作真时真亦假，无为有处有还无" — asking profound questions about existence, love, and meaning. As Jianghua remarked: "This video was so touching and beautiful — it's such a pity Bella couldn't be here with us."

Lei welcomed our special guest Ninan, who was visiting GC for the second time recently（因为 Ninan 曾经是资深老会员）. Ninan shared that she works in government in 啤酒之都 (the beer capital) as a bridge between government and companies. She grew up in Beijing along Chang'an Avenue — "I'm very familiar with this area." Ninan noted that coming to GC meetings gives her the motivation to leave the office on time instead of working overtime!

Cindy introduced her evaluation team with enthusiasm: "Today we have a very powerful evaluation team — not an ordinary team!"

⏱️ Bing LIU (Timer): Introduced time rules with energy and humor. Special timing for Hunter: green at 10 min, yellow at 13 min, red at 15 min. Rehearsed the "5-4-3-2-1" countdown with applause from the audience.

🔴 Warren YUE (Ah-Counter): Demoed his AI-powered Ah-Counter web page — built just 10 minutes before the meeting! Four levels of tracking: basic fillers, English connectors,修饰词 (modifiers), and repeated words. "I can give you only one word: be nervous. That's pause, wait — because you can use the wait for your brain to catch up with your mouth."

📖 Joanne ZHANG (WordSmith): Introduced the word TRANSFORM with its Latin roots, the caterpillar-to-butterfly metaphor, and Mandela's famous quote about education.

🎯 Session Design: Julie prepared an extraordinary Table Topics session in two parts — she had been preparing since the previous weekend!

Part 1 — Poetry Appreciation (Open Book): Participants selected poems from 红楼梦 and shared their personal interpretations. Sarah analyzed 黛玉's葬花词 (Burial of Flowers poem), reflecting on the character's lack of choice in life. Hunter connected 好了歌 (The "Won-Done" Song) to his visit to a Zhengzhou museum, realizing that even emperors' achievements fade. Sandy brilliantly compared 贾宝玉's poem with 苏轼's philosophy — two very different approaches to life's hardships. Nian explored 真假 (truth and illusion), linking it to the many roles we play in life.

Part 2 — Role Play: Tina was the only brave soul who chose role-play questions — imagining what career 黛玉 could have in the modern world (writer or actress, using her sensitivity and rich spiritual world).

Cindy noted in her GE report: "You can see from the audience's regret at not participating more that they really loved it. Your unique Julie style — combining personal talent with Chinese literature — is very valuable for our club."

Sarah gave detailed, personal feedback to each TT speaker. She praised Tina for choosing the challenging role-play question and using beautiful vocabulary: "You mentioned that 黛玉 could capture the sense of life — not only because she is pretty, but because she has a rich spiritual world." She commended Yunduan for accurately grasping the contrast in the poem about rich families falling into poverty, and using a clear structure: point → example → summary. Sarah also expressed regret that more people didn't get to try the role-play questions.

Lei delivered her evaluation with warmth and encouraging gestures. She praised Sarah for integrating her own thoughts into the poem interpretation and noted how Nian's English speed was "just right — not too fast, not too slow." She highlighted Sandy's excellent structure in comparing 贾宝玉 and 苏轼 — "to vanish them and enjoy the current moment — this sentence is very powerful." Lei's feedback style was noted by Cindy as very encouraging, with good use of specific examples.

🎯 Key Message: Being on time is not just about time — it's about respect for others and for yourself.

📖 Story: Tina shared her personal transformation from a child who was never late (thanks to her parents' system) to an adult who became chronically late. It started with a high school friend who was always 30 minutes late — Tina adapted by also being late, thinking she was being "efficient and smart." But the habit spiraled: she missed a flight, kept a friend waiting for an hour, and arrived late to her first two GC meetings.

💡 Tina's Transformation: She took the subway instead of driving, ate dinner at the venue, relaxed before the meeting — and was no longer late. She ended by inviting feedback: "If someone could give me suggestions on how to manage time better, I will appreciate that and include it in my next speech."

Sarah noted that Hunter's speech was special — with 15 minutes and a difficult audience to manage. She praised the clear structure (opening questions → wife's story → key message → call to action), the relatable topic, and the powerful core message: "Be remembered by what you did." She also noted that the audience interrupters "were too gentle" — in real life, difficult audiences can be much ruder! A valuable, practical speech with real-life application.

Cary gave thoughtful feedback on Tina's first speech. He praised her natural gestures — "just like a native speaker" — and how vivid her examples were, especially recalling when Tina was late to GC meetings. He suggested strengthening the opening with a posture to make the first sentence more impactful, and adding a stronger call to action at the end: "Maybe never be late again — so you will respect others and also respect yourself." He noted her speaking speed was easy to follow, a marked improvement from previous speeches.

Joanne reported word usage: Cindy used "transform" 3 times (the most!), Hunter twice, and Ninan, Tina, and Jianghua once each. She also captured a treasure trove of beautiful words from every speaker: regretful, hardship, integrity, necessities, trivial details, release, rich spiritual world, emptiness, comforts, practical person, life principles, strive for, contradiction, freelance, trial sessions, privilege, victory, complain, feel terrible, blame, priority, interrupt, vivid, speed — a rich vocabulary harvest!

Warren delivered his report using the AI-powered Ah-Counter web page he built before the meeting. He mentioned detailed statistics, and will send the image to the speaker after the meeting. His key advice: "Be nervous — that's pause, wait. Because you can use the wait for your brain to catch up with your mouth."

Bing expressed pride that the meeting stayed exactly on time. Highlights: Joanne used exactly 2 minutes for her WordSmith intro — "a tremendous result!" Yunduan controlled her TT speech within 2 seconds of the 2-minute limit. Tina saved 45 seconds by finishing at 6:15 (out of 7 min). Hunter concluded at 13:15 (out of 15 min). Sarah slightly exceeded by 8 seconds in her evaluation. "I believe we can control our time consistently in the future!"

Cindy delivered a comprehensive GE report covering every role:

🌟 Jianghua (TM): "I saw how you incorporated your understanding of the theme into your role. The humor — 'it's okay, no need to be perfect since imperfection is beauty, just be real' — that little element is great." Suggestion: use the audience survey answers more during the meeting.

🌟 Julie (TTM): "Your unique and valuable Julie style for our club — combining personal talent, your understanding of 红楼梦, and Chinese literature." Suggestion: give a demo question to lower the participation barrier for those unfamiliar with the novel.

🌟 Bing (Timer): "You demonstrated an excellent example of how concise but insightful a timer can be."

🌟 Warren (Ah-Counter): "Very accurate calculation — in a comfortable, very good way." Suggestion: look up from the script more, extract key points, speak louder.

🌟 TT Evaluators: Both did well with encouraging words. Suggestion: use a structured framework (content, structure, delivery, uniqueness) for future evaluations.

🌟 Sarah (IE): Suggestion on time control — lead with your key message first, then add background.

📅 Next Meeting (Apr 29): Open House with an AI-themed workshop! "We need a workshop about how to raise a lobster." The Table Topics session will remain in English. Hunter invited members to sign up for prepared speeches and functional roles.
