🎬 Opening

President Opening (Sarah):

Toastmasters was founded in the United States and has a 102-year history. It is a global non-profit educational organization where people come to practice public speaking and leadership. Core values: Integrity, Respect, Service, Excellence.

"GC Club is the oldest club in Beijing, 22 years old this year. We have three tones: spiritual growth, relaxation, and life experience. Please feel free to talk on the stage."

Host Theme Sharing (Sarah):

When I was a child, freedom was my parents making decisions for me. In college, freedom was choosing my own job and major. Now I believe freedom is the right to say "no" and the power to make choices.

📚 A Language, A Journey · L1S2
Pathway

Core Theme: Japanese Learning Journey

Highlights:

  • First trip to Tokyo Disneyland in college, couldn't understand the tour guide's jokes, wanted to chat with Japanese high school girls but couldn't communicate
  • Started self-study 2 years ago, using spare time (while cooking, cleaning)
  • Passed JLPT N2, can read Japanese product labels, light novels, play Japanese games
  • Chatted with a stranger on the train from Nagoya to Tokyo in Japanese
"Language isn't about exams or vocabulary, it's about connection."
"Progress doesn't come from intensity, it comes from consistency, flexibility and interest."

💪 Start Small, Game Big · L1S2
Pathway

Core Theme: Start with small habits to achieve big changes

Highlights:

  • Gym strength training class, first time felt lost, weights too heavy, form incorrect
  • Realized "effort alone isn't enough", decided to treat each session as a learning process
  • Three questions after each class: What did I do right? What did the coach correct? What's one thing to improve?
  • 3 times per week, after 1-2 months became stronger, more confident, more disciplined
"Starting small can lead to big gains. It works in the gym, it works in the classroom, and it works in our daily life."

Childhood Dream Freedom vs Adult Freedom
Word King 6 times

As a child, I thought freedom was doing whatever I wanted. As an adult, I found scrolling short videos is the strongest attraction. True freedom requires self-control and the courage to make decisions for yourself.

"Freedom is nothing that purely depend on my own. It needs to be based on some other dimensions like my self control, my pursuit of my future life."
J
Julie
Freedom and Responsibility Are Not Opposites

Different people have different life choices: some want to pursue higher positions to change the world, others prefer a quiet life. Quoted Liu Yong "A talented poet is naturally a minister in white robes" — rejected by the emperor, he chose to write poetry. This was his choice and his freedom.

"As modern women, we have the choice to work. Freedom comes with responsibility, so in my view it's not opposite."

The Relationship Between Love and Freedom

Freedom is having the courage to be self-disciplined. Love and responsibility do limit freedom, but this is the meaning of life. True freedom is not about doing what you want, but teaching you not to do what you don't want to do.

"Freedom is to have courage to be self-disciplined."
"Attention is the most valuable thing on the earth."

If You Had Full Freedom, How Would You Live?
First Time Guest

Graduated a few years ago, busy building career, friendships, and relationships in this big city. Currently in the "earning freedom" stage. Future goals: travel without burden, devote time to public service.

"I don't think that we can easily achieve full freedom, but if we actually have the chance to do, then just cherish it."

Ninan (Guest)
Money vs Free Will
First Time Guest

As an adult, I want both, but in modern society I would choose money first. "Money can solve problems are not big problems." With money: quit job and travel (Africa to see animals, learn scuba diving), buy a big house, spend more time with parents.

Personal Experience: Traveled to the North Pole alone

🎤 Debate Session:

Topic: "Is complete freedom a good thing or a bad thing?"

Pro (Lei): Complete freedom is good — with money you can travel the world, send kids to international schools

Con (Annie): Complete freedom is bad — kids would watch TV all day, bad guys would do whatever they want on the streets

Timer 🏆
Best Functional Role

Total Time: 120 minutes, only 4 minutes over ✅

Observations & Suggestions:

  • Table Topics: Great content design, but rhythm slightly chaotic (27 min used, 3 min remaining)
  • Evaluation session: Elegant at first, rushed at the end (Bella evaluated one extra person)
  • Suggestion: Put key points first, end elegantly

Timer Takeaway: First time in this role, details matter. Will improve rule documentation for the next timer.
